Sick Society Podcast—Coming January 2026!
Host: Dr Alexis Paton and Sir Andrew Goddard
What is health?
It is about a lot more than germs, injuries and cancer cells. The neighbourhood you live in is just as likely to kill you as smoking. In fact, most of what makes us sick or well doesn’t happen in a hospital or GP’s office. We cannot find it over the counter at the pharmacy. It is our world around us that shapes our health: where we live, work, and play. Where we are born is as important as our diet or genetics. How much money we have as vital as how active we are. Who we vote for and what political party is in power is as relevant as how often we go to the gym. The wrong job, the wrong school, the wrong political policies, even the wrong neighbourhood can have a devastating impact on our health, and yet we rarely talk about health in this way.
The Sick Society Podcast thinks we should. Over 8 episodes per season Alexis and Andrew will tackle all the strange and wonderful ways that the world around us impacts on our health. Speaking to experts and drawing decades of unrivalled, fly-on-the-wall access to the British public, the NHS and policy makers, in each episode Alexis and Andrew explain in devastatingly simple terms how modern society is making everyday people sicker than they have ever been before.
