Research
Alexis studies how people (patients, healthcare professionals, policy-makers) make decisions about health. Her work sits at the intersection of medical sociology, bioethics, and public health, with a focus on how social factors shape healthcare experiences and outcomes. She investigates ethical decision-making in clinical settings, patient choice, and health inequalities—particularly how they affect marginalised communities. Her work often uses qualitative, community-led approaches to centre the voices of patients, families, and healthcare professionals. Alexis also studies how healthcare policies and systems can be made more ethical, inclusive, safe and effective. Her research directly informs public debate and policy, helping to create fairer, more socially informed healthcare practices in the UK and beyond.
She is currently working on the relationship between fuel poverty and health. Have a look at these infographics to learn more about the findings of the first phase of the project, and what it is like for people living in fuel poverty trying to stay well and healthy.
